About Us

The Doctors

Dr Adrian Penney GMC 2531975 MB,BS,MRCS,LRCP,DFFP - Qualified February 1979, Guys Hospital, London.  Dr Penney was born in Bishop’s Castle and feels privileged to be able to return home to work in a rural general practice.  He is a generalist but has a special interest in the Community Hospital and palliative care.  He is also involved in representing the needs of a rural community within the health economy of Shropshire and the West Midlands.

Dr Adrian Fairbanks GMC 3407370 MB,BS,DRCOG(1) - Qualified August 1989, Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London.  Dr Fairbanks main interests are minor surgical procedures, high blood pressure management and prevention of heart disease.  

Dr Susan Lambert GMC 2435471 MB,B.Chir, DRCOG(’78) - Family Planning Cert. Although Dr Lambert considers herself a generalist, she is the lead GP for the care and management of our diabetic patients.

The Practice Staff

Practice Manager – Mrs Cheryl Brierley manages and co-ordinates the day to day running of the practice along with planning for the future and dealing with the PCT.  She is also the first point of contact for patients with comments or complaints.

Administration staff - The practice employs seven part time administration staff: Sarah Bevan, Sandy Burton, Lynne Farr, Margaret Griffiths, Sheridan Humphrey, Jan Morris, Nicky Perks.

Practice Nursing Team

Nurse Specialist - Isobel Sawyer is trained to deal with sudden onset minor ailments.  She holds dedicated daily clinics which enables patients to been seen and treated swiftly.  She is a fully qualified Nurse Independent Prescriber so is able to issue and sign prescriptions for the patients she sees.    

Practice Nurse - Eleri Fairbanks interest is hypertension and is responsible for monitoring hypertensive patients.

Both the Practice Nurses manage chronic disease patients and provide clinics for asthma checks, dressings, ear syringing, ECGs, spirometry and smears.  They also give advice on travel vaccinations and perform immunizations. 

Health Care Assistant – Sam Bavastock is trained to take blood and carry out ECGs.  She also supports the nursing team.

Health Visitor -The Health Visitor attached to the surgery is Jenny Moreland.

Counsellors - Marilyn Lowther is a counsellor attached to the surgery and offers appointments on Wednesdays.

We also have a trainee counsellor on rotation from the PCT.

Diabetic chiropodists are Louise Lowe and Amy Mottershead

Community Midwife is Helen Rawlings.

District Nurses - The District Nurses serving the Bishop’s Castle area are Sarah Meredith and Helen Tudor.

GP Registrar - Bishop’s Castle Medical Practice is a training practice; from time to time a fully qualified hospital doctor who is experiencing general practice as a GP Registrar is with the practice for up to 6 months.
